Top 10 Server Virtualization Myths - drive by post review

By | July 23, 2010, 4:43am PDT

While doing my morning news scan, I came across Top 10 Server Virtualization Myths — Debunked posted by Kenneth Hess over at ServerWatch. He brings up some important issues concerning cost, performance, security, reliability and even licensing issues and points out how they can be tackled.  I believe we’d both agree that those who have built their environment based upon a sound plan or architecture are more likely to be successful than those who allowed their environment to grow organically without a plan.

The post really doesn’t go into issues related to other forms of virtualization, such as access virtualization (an important component of VDI or desktop virtualization) and application virtualization. It does, on the other hand, touch on management of virtual environments and storage virtualization.

I disagree with #7

The website you name lists #9 as: Server Virtualization Leads to Server Sprawl. I disagree that this is a myth-- it just makes plain sense that people would be less careful with remote servers than they are with ones they can see and therefore easily quantify. It's just like the old personal finance technique of putting your food budget, gas money, etc. in cash in separate envelopes--it's easier to track your funds when you can actually see it dwindling.

For those who are new to this area, here's an article that I found helpful:

@ColleenWelch Everyone hated the mainframe days where users and companies had to come on bended knee to plead for changes from the geeks running the computer.

Why would anyone want to change back to this model? The cloud is a trick name, but the chains are the same. gizli numaralar oyunu ask oyunlari
Where does Idaho rank? We have been living in Montana for the past 5 years and I am not supri sexy shop to find it #3 on the "worst" list. Considering a sexshopmove to Idaho to escapthe high cost of living a low income in MT. There may not be a sales tax here but they get you if you own property!
