From time to time, Veeam sends me notes and press releases. The company offers a number of products designed to assist IT professions find and manage virtual servers based upon VMware's ESX server. The product, Veeam Reporter 2.5, provides these professionals with the tools necessary to document their environment, that is, Veeam Reporter discovers virtual servers, how much storage they take up and a number of other useful data points.

The company also offers Veeam Configurator, a product designed to configure and provision VMware ESX server-based virtual servers, Veeam Monitor, a product designed to monitor the operations of these virtual servers, and FastCP, a product designed to manage these virtual servers.

I'm not sure where to begin to list the competitors Veeam faces. There are quite a number of competitors and each offers a different approach to resolving the same issues. Regardless of the strength of the tools Veeam is offering, the company certainly has its work cut out for it if it wishes to get its share of the market's attention.

The products, on the other hand, appear to be focused on the needs of the IT professional and, as such, are straightforward and powerful. While I applaud the approach of listening to what IT professionals are saying, it is also wise to make sure that IT executives are aware of the product, have the tools to consider what those tools can do for their organizations and understand why Veeam's products should be selected over those offered by better known (to the IT executive anyway) competitors. Excellent products are always a good place to start.
