Welcome to my new #followfriday series. Each Friday I will try to share with you a few people that I enjoy following on Twitter. Today’s first post will cover the essential geeks that are on the bleeding edge of all things web.

1.) @laughingsquid - Even before I moved into the bay area, I was following Scott Beale on Twitter. He’s goes to every event, and then posts about it. He knows all of the underground spots in San Francisco, and where all the geeks go to mingle when they are away from the computer.

His mix of art, tech, and culture-related updates are always interesting. He’s a professional blogger, but he’s embraced the microblog. I’ve actually learned a lot about Twitter etiquette from Scott. He doesn’t tweet every little thing he’s doing, but instead makes each update count.

2.) @parislemon - MG Siegler is one of my favorite bloggers. He’s been published in NY Times, CNET, WSJ, and even ReadWriteWeb. He used to cover emerging tech trends at VentureBeat, and now he posts on TechCrunch more than Michael Arrington. And he still manages to put interesting stuff on his personal blog.

MG will continue to own TechMeme wherever he decides to write, so keep tabs on him.

3.) @acedtect - He’s so brilliant, he’s sub-brilliant. Besides being satirical, serious, and knowledgeable all at once, he’s also got a voice for radio. Tom Merritt is one of my favorite people to follow on Twitter, not because I am a fan of his work, but because I like to see his 140-character consensus on life.

Merritt is very techy too, just watch him show you how to upgrade your laptop’s hard drive.

4.) @guykawasaki - I have even un-followed him a couple times, but I won’t make that mistake again. Guy impressed me at this year’s SxSW when he interviewed Wired editor Chris Anderson.

Guy’s tweets are mainly cool news stories that he finds on the web, with a link to a tag page from his company AllTop. He’s an essential follow because his content is informative, and the advertisement for his site is harmless and innocent.

5.) @caro - Another in-house CBSi Twitter user that I can’t stop following is New York tech girl Caroline McCarthy. She is my east-coast counterpart writing about the social media space, and she’s also very smart, creative, and comical.

She is always on the forefront of web innovation too, so follow her on Twitter if you want to ride along.
