Check out this video from Zdenek Kalal in Surrey, UK. He’s built an extremely smart camera that can track and recognize faces, among other things. Imagine the ideas that could come to fruition with this kind of technology.

He needs to come work for us.
There's a half-dozen uses he didn't mention that could be decisive, including auto-targeting systems and other defense applications. Burning the algorithm into custom silicon could make it very fast indeed, and add new forms of image stabilization to digital cameras.

RE: Predator: A camera that learns
Sounds like a good defense tool for citizen and country alike! Imagine that someone happens to be kidnapped. A security camera captures an image of the person who instigated this act. That image could then be sent nation wide to all of the security cameras in use. The instigator then crosses unknowingly another security camera. That image capture and location are instantly sent to the local authorities. It would not be long before an arrest and a rescue attempt would occur! Then again, it could be used in something similar to 1984 (the book).
You make your own decision on this. They are just two instances that came to mind.

@warriorpoetess Speaking of 1984, I am sure Jobs is in negotiations to buy the company right now!

RE: Predator: A camera that learns
I believe most of this, if not all, is already out there but possibly not from only one source.

looks like the iSee software that came with my web camera.
it can track my face too.
that tech has been around for a long time.
it's doubtful that the image recognition code could be put on the same die as the camera.
the big boys have been trying.
if he could put it all on a flash card and run it on a low-grade android tablet he might have something to boast about.
we'll see.

RE: Predator: A camera that learns
Nice camera! It could be used and added to security cameras and other tracking tech. In this day of security, I could see this used to find people in a croud and from a Helicopter or Airplane or on Military Ships, tanks, trucks and more I could see. I would like one or several myself for security to get a nice face shot with tracking. But very nice tech....
