Blogger hiccup wipes out page-view statistics worldwide

Those using the Blogger platform today spent some time flying in the dark when trying to review their site's traffic performance.

Earlier this morning, page view statistics on Google's Blogger platform had reverted to zero.

According to a post made today on Blogger's known issues blog, Google has received many reports from its users and is aware of the problem.

"We're working to resolve this problem as quickly as possible. Thanks for bearing with us — we apologize for the inconvenience this issue has caused," the company said. Google was unable to comment further at the time.

Throughout the day, statistics have been reappearing for some users, sometimes with data missing, but then later reverting back to zero.

Google's product forums for Blogger are filled with similar reports from users complaining that their statistics have been completely reset.

In certain cases, the data is used to provide further functionality to sites, such as determining what the most popular posts are, which has resulted in some broken sites.

The company appears to be taking action, with some users reporting that their statistics have been restored. Despite the glitch, Blogger stills seems to be capturing data about visitors and users, even for those users that do not have their statistics fully restored at this time, with this information likely to also be included once the issue is resolved.

Statistics logged using Google Analytics are unaffected.

Update on 15 October, 2012 at 8.15pm AEDT: Google has advised that this issue has now been rectified.
