BT Global Services has reorganised its One unified communications portfolio and updated it to include a new smartphone app and web client for voice, a Microsoft Lync-based service and new high-definition video endpoints.

The four "key building blocks" around which the BT One portfolio has been restructured are: voice, enterprise, cloud and 'collaborate'. The restructuring is, according to BT, supposed to provide greater simplicity for its corporate customers. It comes just 10 days after Luis Alvarez took over as head of BT Global Services.

"Our vision is to make communications simpler, helping organisations transform the way they collaborate internally and the way they interact with their customers, partners and suppliers," Alvarez said in a statement on Wednesday. "This is something that BT is very well placed to do, as we work closely with the best technology suppliers and invest in new capabilities."

One of the key new services is One Cloud Lync, based on Microsoft's unified communications product. One Cloud Lync takes in instant messaging, audio, video, screen-sharing and interactive white-boarding, and BT promises it can be easily integrated with existing infrastructure.

One Enterprise Cisco is a UC9-based unified communications platform, and 'One Voice anywhere' offers both a smartphone app and web client for cheap IP-based voice-calling as a way of skipping pricey roaming charges.

On the video side, there are new One Collaborate high-definition endpoints, and BT also said it was trialling new audio technology for conferencing alongside Dolby Laboratories.
