Citrix, Palo Alto Networks tighten firewall integration

Citrix and Palo Alto Networks on Tuesday said that they will integrate their cloud networking and firewall wares for data centers.

The two companies, which are already partners on various fronts, will integrate Palo Alto Networks' next-gen VM-Series virtual firewall on Citrix's NetScaler SDX platform. NetScaler SDX is a cloud service platform that's designed to optimize application delivery and performance.

On Citrix's NetScaler appliance Palo Alto Networks' PAN-OS will run as if it was a physical firewall. The companies said that the latest integration is the second phase of a strategic partnership.

Via the VM-Series and NetScaler application delivery controller integration, Citrix and Palo Alto Networks can better secure load balancing with dedicated firewalls.

The companies added that they will continue to built joint products ranging from Citrix's XenApp and XenDesktop to today's NetScaler effort. The partnership appears to work out for both parties. Palo Alto Networks can use Citrix's customer base and channel to expand. Citrix gets security heft.
