Japan's NTT Docomo will offer a localized version of its "d game" gaming portal overseas for the first time through a partnership with China Mobile.
In a press releaseMonday, the telco announced the gaming service would be available on China Mobile's app store from March 26.
"Docomo aims to capitalize on the rapidly growing demand for smartphone content in China by offering an increasing variety of localized games and various content selected for the Chinese market," said the company in the statement.
The launch will start with 20 titles from major Japanese developers such as Capcom, Konami Digital Entertainment, Techmo Koei Games, Square Enix and MTI. Non-game content such as wallpapers will also be included.
Docomo has also been looking at diversifying its business, with acquisitions in finance, retail and digital content to reduce its dependence on revenue from mobile phone calls. The telco is looking to nearly double its revenue from non-traditional businesses to 1 trillion yen (US$10.7 billion) by its financial year ending March 2016.
