Smartphone maker Xiaomi appears to have received approval from China's broadcast ministry to resume its Internet TV streaming service delivered via its set-top box, Xiaomi Box.

A Sina Tech report Monday cited a source who is involved in the manufacturing of the set-top box that Future Television has received approvals from the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT) to work with Xiaomi to provide content for its Internet service.

Future TV is the Internet TV subsidiary of CCTV's national online TV station CNTV.

Xiaomi released its set-top box in November last year. However, the video service for the set-top box was suspended by SARFT as the company did not have approvals from the regulator to stream TV content.

Sina Tech said Xiaomi then decided to work with Future Television to work around the regulatory barrier. On January 28, the companies announced their partnership for the next three years which would see Xiaomi Box streaming content from CNTV's broadcast platform.
