Chinese Internet video streaming service Youku Tudou will provide video software to Haier for its smart TVs.
The deal will allow its content to be accessible from Haier's TVs, and is its latest strategic partnership with hardware makers, according to China Tech News. Late last year, Youku Tudou had reached a similar deal with Shenzhen Coship Electronics.
Last year, Youku Tudou had announced plans to enter the smart TV sector, noted the report. This would involve deals with license holders and TV hardware providers, to provider content services via built-in software.
Having strong alliances with smart TV makers will strengthen the content ecosystem and realize the potential from the trend of multiple screens and having content everywhere, said Yao Jian, CTO of Youku Tudou group in the article.
Youku Tudou was the result of a merger between China's top two video streaming service providers, in a bid to bring down operational costs from synergies such as savings from licenses, bandwidth and servers.
