CSC wins more Western Power work

Perth-based electricity utility Western Power has handed another parcel of IT services work to US outsourcing giant CSC, this time relating to desktop services.

Under the three-year, $11.8 million deal, which also has two one-year extension options, CSC will support Western Power's more than 4,700 desktop PCs, providing security, asset management and procurement services, as well as establishing a standard desktop environment.

"CSC will also work with Western Power to explore a virtual desktop solution throughout the company's Western Australian operations, optimising the desktop environment and providing additional flexibility to users," said CSC in a statement.

The news comes after Western Power awarded a separate, $15.4 million deal to CSC in April to provide mainframe operations and support.

Western Power CIO Leigh Sprlyan said the in-scope services covered by the new CSC desktop contract were previously performed by independent contractors engaged directly by Western Power and through third parties. In most cases, those resources were being retained by CSC, he said.
