In its tender documents, the CSIRO said that it is seeking information to help formulate its IT policies into the future, as well as determine a course of action for datacentre consolidation projects.

"CSIRO has a requirement to expand the [datacentre] footprint in Canberra to meet the growing needs of the enterprise and scientific community needs," the science agency said.

Respondents to the tender will need to comply with the CSIRO's environmental management strategy. The science agency aims to halve water usage and waste generation, as well as be carbon neutral by 2015.

The CSIRO expects to go live with the new facilities by 1 March 2012, with a minimum requirement of 500 square metres of usable space.

Vendors have until 22 February to respond.
