Custom, secure app development surges in Q1

Enterprises in the first quarter moved to develop custom apps at a rapid clip and also prioritized security, according to Good Technology data.

Good said that enterprise activations were up 57 percent from the fourth quarter. Custom app development was up 77 percent in the first quarter relative to the fourth. Mobile printing, notes and mobile unified communications were other fast-growing areas.

Meanwhile, the number of secure browsing apps were in the top five after not making the top 10 in previous quarters.

As for activation data, iOS still dominates the enterprise and accounted for 72 percent of total activations. Android represented 27 percent of device activations with Windows Phone at 1 percent. Ninety three percent of enterprise app activations were iOS based.

The top three tablet apps activated revolved around document editing and management and custom software. Smartphone apps revolved around unified communications, document management. and custom development.
