The Australian Customs and Border Protection Service yesterday announced that it is on the hunt for an electronic document and records management system (EDRMS).

The system will control the creation, maintenance, use and disposal of commonwealth records. According to Customs, the information is currently located in email stores, network drives, SharePoint sites and hard copy file repositories, according to tender documents.

While it said that it is looking for an "off the shelf" software package, Customs mentioned that it is encouraging suppliers to submit and develop open-source software for the tender.

Customs is seeking a three-year contract, with the option to extend the contract twice for three years each time.

Industry will be briefed next week about the tender and the contract is slated to commence in September.
