The virtual smartphone is delivered via a partnership with Vonage. Dell has also added email integration with Microsoft Office 365 and storage from Box.

Dell has been building out its EMM suite in recent months with an aim to offer a cloud-based consolidated view of mobile environments, said Neil Foster, general manager for the mobility services unit at Dell's software group. Dell's mobility management plans were announced about nine months ago at Dell World.

Foster said that Dell's customer count for EMM is "in the 100s." Dell's voice plans will start at $19.99 a month for 1,000 voice minutes and unlimited text. Foster added that enterprises can be 50 percent cheaper than carriers because it saves on wireless plans via voiceover IP and allows companies to pool minutes.

Vonage said the Dell deal could enable it to land business customers it wouldn't have had access to otherwise.

Dell will add its virtual smartphone to its Dell Mobile Workspace, which allows apps and services to sync and share data. The virtual smartphone will allow employees to have a work and personal line on their personal Android or iOS device.

For Dell, its EMM suite is a way to introduce customers to its cloud software portfolio and play in the bring your own device movement.
