Dell is targeting small business with a series of laptops, desktop and associated services to cure integration blues for organisations with less than 10 employees.

The Vostro range of hardware and services will be aimed at small businesses without an IT department, the company said in a statement.

Vostro, which means "yours" in Latin, will include a variety of service contracts and options, including up to 30GB of automated data backup, PC performance and health diagnosis, and technical support.

Dell said that Vostro laptops and desktops will come without trialware. According to a global Dell survey of 1,800 small businesses, trialware and setting up new systems are among the top frustrations with IT purchasing.

"Small businesses throughout Europe face the challenge of choosing the right IT solutions to meet their specific needs," said Aongus Hegarty, vice president and general manager, home and small business, Dell EMEA. "Our goal is to simplify this process and offer the guidance necessary for customers to make informed technology decisions that will best benefit their business, as well as offer continuous IT support throughout the life of their infrastructure and beyond."

The IT company has collaborated with Intel to produce a microsite to market Vostro to small businesses in Europe.

Dell's small business product range includes: laptops, desktops, printers and a 19-inch wide-screen monitor. All Vostro PCs will be available with the Dell one-year Business Hardware Support warranty as standard, the company said in a statement.

Dell Australia is expected to announce the Vostro line-up of hardware and services at press conference scheduled for today.

However, the local Web site lists prices and availability for the range.

Australian pricings are as follows:

  • Laptops: start with the entry level Vostro 1000 from AU$949 including delivery. Laptop models include the Vostro 1400 and 1500.
  • Desktops: Vostro 200 mini-tower or slim-sized case starts at AU$799 including delivery.
  • Printers: Dell 1320c Colour Laser printer from AU$399 including delivery.
