Today may not be the best day for Dell to tease a new product, seeing how some other company was already doing that. Then again, Apple didn't mention the iPad, so a tablet announcement may have been a better choice than, say, a new smartwatch.

It was only a few weeks ago that ZDNet's own James Kendrick reviewed the Dell Venue 8 Android tablet (along with its smaller Venue 7 sibling), but it's already getting a refresh. The Dell website has a "coming soon" product page for the latest version, which promises some major aesthetic updates.

You can't miss the page's hero image proclaiming that the new Venue 8 7000 Series will be "the world's thinnest tablet." How thin? Just 6mm, or about 0.24 inches. In comparison, the latest iPad mini is 7.5mm thick, or five hundredths of an inch thicker. To further emphasize its streamlined design, the new Venue 8 will include an 8.4-inch OLED display that goes edge to edge with its 2,560x1,600 resolution.

Michael Dell showed off the new tablet at the Intel Developer Forum, so it should come as no surprise that the Venue includes Intel technology, such as a "Moorefield" Atom Z3500 quad-core processor and the Intel RealSense camera that includes depth-sensing technology. Expect similar Android tablets in the near future as Intel has released a reference design program that it claims will offer "a high quality, consistent experience" across various models.

The Venue 8 7000 Series is due in time for the holiday shopping season, though pricing information has not been disclosed to give you an idea of how much to save if you want to give it as a gift.
