About Rupert Goodwins

Rupert started off as a nerdy lad expecting to be an electronics engineer, but having tried it for a while discovered that journalism was more fun. He ended up on PC Magazine in the early '90s, before that evolved into ZDNet UK - and Rupert evolved with them into an online journalist.

About

Charles has been in tech publishing since the late 1980s, starting with Reed's Practical Computing, then moving to Ziff-Davis to help launch the UK version of PC Magazine in 1992. ZDNet came looking for a Reviews Editor in 2000, and he's been here ever since.

  • Irradiated sound!

I fear that Charles and Rupert may have been irradiated during the disk torture test. Charles is on the left and Rupert is on the right (as you watch), but in glorious stereo Charles smooth tones are coming from my right speaker, and Ruperts equally smooth tones are coming from the left.
I do hope they are feeling well.
Or have I plugged my speakers in the wrong way around? :-)
Very enjoyable and informative as always.
Best wishes and yuletide greetings from Mike.

  • Sounds ok on my headphones!

Rupert's coming out of my right headphone, while Charles is on the left.

  • Beta irradiation

Nothing that another visit to the pub couldn't fix!

A single thin layer of metal foil would block most of the Beta radiation. If that wouldn't do it then you guys need to be wearing more than plastic gloves!
