Global systems integrator Dimension Data has stepped up its hosting and management services for software developers moving their applications into the cloud with several new offerings.
Its focus is on speeding up the process, and helping ISVs develop business practices for pricing and managing sales of their software under the cloud business model. The market for applications delivered as a service (aka SaaS solutions) is estimated at more than $20 billion by 2015.
"We have helped transition hundreds of software vendors to SaaS and, by leveraging our secure and reliable cloud infrastructure, in addition to our deep expertise in SaaS hosting and global systems integration, we can offer a full lifecycle of IT solutions for SaaS providers," said Steve Nola, CEO of Cloud Solutions for Dimension Data.
One example is Astoria Software, which used the integrator to move its content management system from a licensed approach into an on-demand model. Astoria's ROI came in the form of its ability to implement applications for its customers in about 90 days, instead of the 12 months that it used to take. This, in turn, has helped reduced its sales cycles from about 18 months to six months, according to the company's president and CEO.

The specific services that Dimension Data is offering to SaaS providers include managed hosting, infrastructure as a service in either a public or private cloud, management services for custom SaaS applications (including application deployment, database management and compliance), and technical support such as patch management, monitoring, operating system updates and backups of production servers.
