Many people complacently leave their laptop computers in their cars, and quite a few of them have had their laptops stolen.

Often, it happens even when they hide the laptop under their car seats or in their car boot.

How can the thieves possibly know which car to strike?

According to this report, it's because they have a special device.

Does such a device actually exist? The police believe there is, although they have not been able to get their hands on one.

  • from what I heard it is not a laptop detector per say but it is actually a gold detector. As the processor legs/pin are made of gold so thats how they get the hint where the laptop is. but not sure how true it is. would love to hear experts comment.

  • Do laptop detectors really exist?

my dad works as the security manager at subang parade and the unit received tons of reports of lost laptops (despite the warnings of the mall's management of not leaving the item in the car, under the seat or in the boot or anywhere) like once 5-10 laptops lost in a week (sorry i can't remember what he told me when he warned me not to leave mine in the car)

there is a detector being used but i don't know what it is exactly but the thieves used the detector to detect a particular component in the laptop. so when the detector responds to the component they break into the car and there are high chances that they are getting a laptop instead of a false alarm (other items with components built using the same material)
