Editing-friendly Quickoffice hits the Android Market

The popular mobile productivity suite Quickoffice has been made available for the first time in the Android Market.

For some time, Quickoffice has come preinstalled on the HTC Magic, the Nexus One and other Android phones, but in a cut-down version that omits editing functionality. On Wednesday, the Quickoffice Connect Mobile Suite was introduced into the Android Market, offering editing and cloud storage access to users of Google's smartphone platform.

"We've been shipping our viewing application on a variety of Android phones for the past year," Quickoffice engineering chief David Halpin said in a statement. "Now, users of supported Android phones can purchase this... productivity app and enjoy increased functionality combined with access to key cloud services."

Quickoffice Connect Mobile Suite is compatible with versions 1.6 ('Donut') and 2.0/2.1 ('Eclair') of Android. The suite allows for full editing of Word, Excel and PowerPoint files, and integrates access to cloud storage services including Apple MobileMe, Google Docs, Box.net and Dropbox.

Also available for the Symbian, iPhone, BlackBerry and Palm OS platforms, Quickoffice Connect Mobile Suite is in the Android Market at an introductory price of £10.28. Its mobile productivity rivals in the Android Market include Androffice and DataViz's Documents To Go suite.
