The Art Of The Hybrid Cloud

Cloud computing is insatiably gobbling up more of the backend services that power businesses. But, some companies have apps with privacy, security, and regulatory demands that preclude the cloud. Here's how to find the right mix of public cloud and private cloud.

Equinix on Tuesday said that Blue Box, which delivers private cloud as a service and aims to speed up enterprise Open Stack deployments, will be added to its cloud exchange.

The addition of Blue Box is an incremental data point highlighting how Equinix is adding direct connections to cloud providers so enterprises can mix and match private and public computing resources.

Initially, Blue Box will be available in Equinix's Seattle data center. Equinix is increasingly seen as a linchpin in hybrid cloud deployments since it offers direct connections to Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure. These connections speed up performance.

Blue Box said it plans to expand to Equinix's Zurich data center in the future. Equinix's cloud exchange is in 17 markets with plans to reach 19 by the end of the year.

Equinix last week said it expects third quarter revenue to be between $614 million and $618 million. Wall Street was expecting third quarter sales of $606.25 million.
