XVision's DataMan Pro ($4.99 for iPhone and iPad) is an essetial iOS app if you pay for a data plan by the byte -- as most people do.

Even if you're grandfathered into a so-called "unlimited" data plan, you'll still get throttled if you're a heavy user (Netflix, anyone?), so it makes sense to track your data usage so that you don't get hit with heavy overage charges.

Apple offers basic cellar data usage statistics in iOS (Settings > General > Usage > Cellular Usage) but they're completely useless if you forget to touch the "Reset Statistics" button on your anniversary day each month.

That's where DataMan Pro comes in. Start by entering your monthly data allowance and the anniversary date when your plan renews each month and DataMan takes it from there. This incredibly useful iOS app monitors your cellular (and Wi-Fi) usage and provides you with real-time alerts about how much data you've used and how much data you have left in a given month (above). DataMan Pro sends alerts via Notification Center, so you'll get a notification while using Netflix, HBO Go, YouTube, Spotify, (or any bandwidth intensive app you're using) before you hit your data cap.

The Current Usage screen displays how much data you've used, broken down by "today," "this week," and "this month." It also breaks down your cellular data usage on a day-by-day basis.

Both Verizon and AT&T charge an overage fee of $10 per 1 GB, so $5 is well spent on DataMan Pro. It can easily pay for itself in its first month of use. Both DataMan Pro for iPhone and iPad are available for $4.99 -- 50% off -- for Thanksgiving. The sale ends on Black Friday, November 23, at 5 a.m. EST.
