Extreme Networks partnered with Lenovo and EMC in a move to grab a larger share of the data center pie for converged infrastructure. Extreme's partnership with Lenovo is a reseller pact and the EMC partnership revolves around certification for VSPEX.
The goal for Extreme is to angle in on best-of-breed networking approaches in the data center when many enterprises opt for stacks from the likes of Cisco, which offers servers and partners with EMC, and Hewlett-Packard, which has a full line-up of hardware.
Here's a breakdown of the moving partnership parts:
- Extreme's deal with Lenovo revolves around a reseller agreement. Lenovo and its channel partners will sell Extreme Open Fabric Ethernet switches based on OpenStack in more than 60 countries. Extreme Networks switches will link up to Lenovo's ThinkServer boxes.
- The EMC VSPEX Labs Validation means that its switches will plug and play with EMC storage, which has a big footprint in the enterprise.
For Extreme, the partnerships give it significant distribution throughput and allow it to target everything from the midmarket to private cloud deployments. The deal with EMC gives Extreme an avenue to be in the same partner stack as Cisco, Brocade, HP and VMware to name a few.
