Facebook has partnered with major antivirus vendors to improve security on its site and offer free security software to its users.

The Antivirus Marketplace was launched by Facebook on Wednesday. It lets people download free six-month trial security packages from McAfee, Microsoft, Norton, Sophos and Trend Micro. The social network also worked with the above companies to add to its database of malicious URLs, so it can prevent users from going to poisoned websites.

"The Antivirus Marketplace [was] developed with industry partners to enhance protection for people on Facebook," Facebook wrote in a blog post. "This program will help us provide even better protections to those using Facebook, no matter where they are on the web."
