Following up the recent roll out of iOS 6, Facebook is following closely behind with an updated SDK with added integration elements for the platform.

The idea behind the upgrade is to further promote Facebook as the foundation for an app's social structure.

Most of the updates focus on user interface controls, including where a user's profile picture and other Facebook objects are displayed as well as native login/logout functionality.

This version also comes with the new FBSession API, which manages, stores, and refreshes user tokens. Developers can choose to override default behaviors in order to build advanced features.

And as Facebook continues to work on mobile ads, Facebook has included ad analytics in beta form tracking the potential effectiveness of ads as well as information about how people use the app.

Naturally, Facebook also added support for the new iPhone 5's 4-inch display and resolution.

Facebook's commitment to the mobile experience -- especially on the iPhone -- is no secret.

CEO Mark Zuckerberg commented at TechCrunch Disrupt SF this month that the recently updated iPhone app is in good shape after a major re-haul, reaffirming Facebook's commitment to improving the native apps over the HTML5 version.

The Facebook SDK 3.1 for iOS is available to download now.
