Facebook to open first Asian office in India

Social networking giant Facebook, has unveiled plans to open a new office in Hyderabad, India, in efforts to expand its support centers.

In a Monday blog post, the company's director of global online operations, Don Faul, said Facebook will be able to better serve its users, advertisers and developers with "round-the-clock, multilingual support" by establishing support centers in multiple time zones.

He said 70 percent of Facebook users are from outside the United States, and added that the site is accessible in over 70 languages.

Facebook has seen rapid growth in India and now has more than 8 million active users in the country, said Faul. The social networking site last month reached 400 million users worldwide .

The company was estimated to clock revenues of US$1 billion, a feat achieved by focusing on engagement ads. Facebook reclaim the remaining of its display ads from Microsoft last month, while expanding their search advertising partnership.

Facebook last week also announced plans to set up a new support center in Austin, Texas. The two new offices in Austin and Hyderabad will supplement the support teams in Facebook's headquarters in Palo Alto, California, as well as its Dublin, Ireland office, said Faul. He did not provide details on when the two new centers will be operational.
