First NSTIC steering group meeting set for Aug. 15-16

Vail, Colo. – The private-sector group named last week to lead the effort to create a digital identity strategy known as NSTIC will hold its first meeting Aug. 15-16 in Chicago.

In addition, the National Strategy for Trusted Identities in Cyberspace (NSTIC) will name in early September the winners in its pilot grant program.

Jeremy Grant, senior executive advisor at NIST, which heads NSTIC's national program office, made the announcements at the Cloud Identity Summit.

Trusted Federal Systems (TFS), which earned a 24-month, $2.5 million grant from NSTIC, will host the meeting as the official “secretariat,” a position laid out in the NSTIC Charter that is a sort of oversight committee that provides secretarial, administrative and logistical support to the Internet Ecosystem Steering Group (IESG).

The group, which consists of 14 stakeholder groups such as identity providers, will be formed at the meeting. The IESG will create policies and standards for an “identity ecosystem framework.”

NSTIC’s by-laws and charter will be ratified at the meeting. Also, management council delegates, a plenary chair and a management council chair will be elected. In addition, plenary standing committees and working groups will be launched.

The meeting is free and open to anyone who wishes to attend. Those that want to vote, join a steering committee or working group will have to register as participating members. Registration is free.

The IESG has established a Web site with instructions for those that want to participate either in-person or remotely.

TFS earned the grant via a federal application process to select a lead for the IESG. The grant program was open to accredited higher education institutions, non-profits and commercial organizations located in the U.S.
