Research In Motion's BlackBerry PlayBook tablet launched on Friday but Vodafone is the only UK network currently stocking the device.

Out of the major UK mobile networks, the seven-inch 16GB PlayBook device is currently only being offered for sale on launch day by Vodafone — priced at £399 — but is not currently being offered on subsidised contract deals.

Orange, which does not currently have the device for sale, told ZDNet UK on Friday that it will be available "at some point in the future" but could not reveal pricing or release specifics.

O2 is the only network to confirm that it would not be stocking the device.

"We currently have no plans to release the BlackBerry PlayBook on O2 - we'll continue to look at all RIM's products to make sure we're offering our customers a range of the best products on the market," the O2 spokesman said in an emailed statement on Friday.

Neither T-Mobile nor Three could confirm whether they would be stocking the device at the time of writing.

The 16GB tablet is also being offered by online retailers such as Expansys — priced at £449 — and PC World, priced at £399. Unlike Vodafone, these retailers are also offering the 32GB and 64GB configurations of the device.

The PlayBook launched in the US in April, priced at around £305 ($500) for the same model.

On Friday, as part of its first quarter financial report for the fiscal year 2012, RIM said it had shipped 500,000 PlayBook tablets since launch.
