Victoria's Department of Human Services has picked Fujitsu for a AU$30.8 million managed services contract delivering services to further the state's HealthSMART information and communications strategy.
DHS is the largest department within the state's government, employing more than 11,000 people and providing health, aged care, housing, disability and children's services.
According to the department's Web site, HealthSMART is a four-year, AU$323 million technology project commenced in 2003 that aims to improve patient care, reduce the administration on healthcare professionals, and ease technical infrastructure costs by adopting a standard approach to information systems.
A spokesperson for Fujitsu said the contract was signed in late August. A spokesperson for the department had not responded to questions by the time of publication.
However, according to a statement issued by Fujitsu this morning, the contract was won after a competitive tender process.
"Fujitsu will provide managed services including 24/7 server and storage monitoring and management, network management, service desk support, technical advice and security administration in both production and non-production environment," Fujitsu's statement said.
The vendor will eventually manage more than 800 servers, as well as two multi-terabyte storage area networks.
The vendor added it would support a range of health-related applications including TrakHealth, iSOFT, Cerner, Oracle (financials), Frontier (payroll) and SeeBeyond (integration).
