A new TV-recording app could end up defining digital-recording law in Australia for years to come.

Optus is in court over the next few days arguing that its TV-recording app, TV Now, does not breach copyright law.

The app has the AFL, the NRL and Telstra up in arms, as they say that it jeopardises mobile-broadcasting deals, because the app lets users watch TV just two minutes outside of broadcast.

ZDNet Australia will be covering all the action in court this week, but here's a quick overview of what's at stake in this latest intellectual property case.
