Following up the CRM giant's 15th anniversary last week, Salesforce.com is looking forward with a notable new appointment to its board of directors.

General Colin Powell has joined the San Francisco-headquartered company's Board of Directors, effective as of March 13.

The addition of the former Secretary of State increases the size of Salesforce's board to 11 members.

While most of Salesforce's board is dominated by tech industry titans -- including CEO, co-founder, and chairman Marc Benioff -- Powell isn't the only former public sector figure on the committee. He follows John V. Roos, former U.S. Ambassador to Japan, a major market for Salesforce.

Powell is also a strategic limited partner at early-stage venture capital fund Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers as well as a member of the Board of Directors of the Council on Foreign Relations, among other leadership positions primarily dedicated to education.

The retired four-star general already made headlines in the tech press earlier this week -- albeit for more casual, even social, reasons.

Celebrating the social media trend "Throwback Thursday," Powell posted a self-taken snapshot (a.k.a. a selfie) to his Facebook profile.

Seen above, the photo was snapped approximately 60 years ago, sparking Internet users to lightheartedly praise Powell as a "pioneer" of this particular photography craze.
