GFI streamlines cloud-based fax solution

Summary: The software developer eventually plans to deliver all of its security, archiving, and communications applications via the cloud services model.

GFI Software has flipped the "on" switch for its new GFI FaxMaker Online offering--a cloud-based faxing solution that is part of the company's push to deliver all of its applications as services.

GFI FaxMaker Online lets small businesses (or any company for that matter) send fax messages from any Internet-connected device independent of the hardware and without needing a dedicated phone line. The service sends and receives messages via any email client or service, regardless of whether it is hosted on-premises or in the cloud.

Here are some other feature highlights:

  • Print-to-fax support from within any application that has a printing option

  • Support for multiple document formats, including standard Office document, spreadsheet, or presentation files, as well as PDF, HTML, and text formats

  • An administration portal that keeps a record of who is using the service across multiple accounts or identities (if that is relevant).

Apparently, plenty of you still use faxes a lot. A survey conducted on behalf of GFI in October 2012 found that 85 percent of the more than 1,000 respondents use faxes in some capacity.

Pricing for the service starts at $12.75 per month, although there's currently a 30-day free trial of the service being offered. Each subscription comes with its own fax number.

  • Legal...

In some regions, Faxes are still used for legal reasons.

Courts accept letters and faxes as "original" documents, but many still don't recognise electronic correspondance as an original document - especially for contracts etc.
