California-based Good Technology announced today that it has signed an agreement to acquire AppCentral, a San Francisco, CA.-based firm specializing in the delivery of mobile enterprise app-stores.

Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. The transaction closed on Monday.

Good Technology specializes in secure mobility solutions for the enterprise and pioneered the Good Dynamics platform, a system where bring-your-own-device (BYOD) smartphones are empowered through mobile applications and bolstered security. Dubbed the industry's "most secure application development platform," the technology secures devices at the application level rather than on the device itself.

The firm targets large businesses, enterprises and vendors who roll out and manage secure applications to their workforces running a variety of mobile platforms, including Android, iOS, and Windows Phone devices.

The purchase of AppCentral, a distributor and manager of secure apps through customer branded enterprise application stores, will bolster the Good Technology's Good Dynamics platform with AppCentral's AppGuardian to increase mobile worker productivity, while ensuring data and applications remains secure on employee handsets.

Also, AppCentral's 'app-wrapping' capability provides enterprise-grade application security, allowing developers to specify application-specific policies, such as file access permissions.

Good Technology president and chief executive King Lee said in prepared remarks: "Our acquisition of AppCentral will accelerate and enhance our ability to provide enterprises, ISVs and systems integrators with the ability to secure and manage mobile apps, helping them maximize the power of mobility."

Good Technology acquired the company and its staff, while the firm's headquarters in San Francisco will become a Good Technology office.
