Google opens snow globe outlets in the Christmas season

Google is opening six showrooms across the United States to step up retail efforts against rivals including Apple as the holiday shopping season gets underway.

The California-based firm's "Winter Wonderlabs" will be opened in New York City, Washington D.C., Chicago, Los Angeles and Sacramento, according to the company's new website. The Winter Wonderlabs, shaped like giant snow globes and complete with fake snow, allow guests to create slow-motion action videos to take home with them -- as well as order a number of Google's wares.

From the Winter Wonderlabs, customers can order a range of Google products, including Nexus 7 tablets, Chromebooks, Google apps and the video-streaming Chromecast gadget after testing them out in the play zone first.

"This holiday season, you’re invited to the Winter Wonderlab presented by Google. Check out new gadgets, make a slow motion video in the giant snow globe, or just escape the holiday hustle with endless games, music, and videos," Google says on its website.

While Microsoft has a number of retail outlets and Apple enjoys successful trade stemming from its iconic outlets which allow potential customers to test products and be taught by staff how to operate them, Google has been lacking in substantial retail space. By setting up stores -- even temporarily through the holiday season -- the tech giant can only hope to profit,
