The mobile industry has been hard at work establishing the standards for all-IP voice and video calling, which will gradually supersede the GSM-based calling that underpins mobile communications.

At Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, GSM Association technology director Dan Warren showed ZDNet UK the technology in action, explaining the latest developments in Voice-over-LTE (VoLTE) roaming. He also points out why all-IP will not necessarily mean lower costs for travelling customers, at least in the early stages of 4G deployment.
