HCL nabs Melbourne IT deal

HCL Technologies has won a deal with Melbourne IT to carry out the integration for a major internal transformation.

The three-year $18 million "Integrated Web Services" project is expected to allow Melbourne IT to sell products across business units and geographies, providing a single global view of customers.

"The IWS project is a mission critical part of accelerating the future growth of our organisation and we are confident that bringing HCL's experience and expertise on board will help ensure the complete success of the project," Melbourne IT chief operating officer, Damian Walsh, said in a statement.

As part of the project, Melbourne IT and HCL Technologies will be working with Oracle to implement new systems to improve processes such as billing.

Melbourne IT will use Oracle's Siebel CRM platform, Business Intelligence suite, Identity Management, Fusion Middleware 11g, Database 11g and Oracle Communications Billing and Revenue Management products, according to Oracle.

The IWS project is now underway and is expected to be completed in 2012.

Melbourne IT has also embarked on a program to improve the reliability of its operational support systems at a cost of $7 million over three years, which has also seen it switch storage vendors from IBM to EMC. Data corruption that had occurred on its IBM storage systems were blamed for a several day outage experienced at the company's WebCentral web-hosting business.
