HMRC promotes mobile apps for record-keeping

Small businesses and the self-employed are notoriously poor at keeping the copious records needed for tax returns, so Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs (HMRC) department is promoting mobile applications that will help users make contemporaneous notes. It says: "The apps are part of an ongoing campaign beginning in 2012/13 to help small businesses with their record-keeping obligations."
Most of the apps are free, and are aimed at small businesses and the self-employed who are below the VAT threshold of £77,000.
HMRC has not tested the apps it lists at Simple record keeping applications for mobile devices, and does not guarantee their security. However, it says: "HMRC worked with the Business Application Software Developer Association (BASDA) and independent developers to facilitate the development of the record-keeping apps."
The list is not exhaustive and will be expanded as new apps emerge. At the moment, there are three apps for Apple's iOS, three for Google Android, one for Windows Phone, and a web-based app that works via a browser. There isn't a RIM BlackBerry app.
