Honda car owners hit by data breach
The Japanese car maker has warned over two million customers in the US that a database containing personal information has been hacked
Japanese car maker Honda has warned some 2.2 million customers in the US that a database containing information on the owners and their cars was hacked, according to reports.
The compromised list contained names, login names, email addresses and 17-character Vehicle Identification Numbers. These numbers were used to send welcome email messages to customers who had registered for an online Owner Link account.
Another 2.7 million My Acura account users were also affected by the breach, but Honda said the list contained only email addresses. Acura is the company's luxury vehicle brand.
