HP has announced updates for its ProLiant Generation 8 server line, which HP has said increase datacentre automation, compared with previous HP servers.

Five of the new servers, which are part of its HP's Project Voyager push will use Intel Xeon E5-2400 processors. The HP ProLiant DL360e Gen8 is a one-rack-unit server aimed at SMEs. The HP ProLiant DL380e Gen8 is a two-rack-unit server for use in datacentres. The HP ProLiant ML350e Gen8 is a two-processor tower for branch offices. The HP ProLiant BL420c Gen8 is a blade server aimed at "cost-sensitive enterprise customers", HP said in a statement on Tuesday.

Two of the servers will use AMD Opteron 6200 Series processors. The HP ProLiant DL385p is a two-rack-unit server, and the HP ProLiant BL465c Gen8 is a server blade with 2,000 cores per rack. Both are designed for virtualisation, database and high-performance workloads.

HP will start selling the servers in the summer, according to the statement.
