HP updates server, storage and networking line-ups

HP updated its enterprise hardware portfolio with the most notable addition being networking devices that combined wired and wireless infrastructure to better manage bring-your-own-device policies.

The news, rolled out Tuesday at HP's Global Partner Conference in Las Vegas, breaks down like this and falls under the company's converged infrastructure banner:

• Networking gear designed to meld wired and wireless management and switching platforms. HP launched a new HP 2920 Switch Series and a 830 Unified/WLAN Switch. The idea is that the new switches will speed up data transfer and cut down on new network access devices. HP is targeting companies that want to blend wired and wireless networks.
• An HP ProLiant WS460c Gen8 Server Blade, which targets virtualized desktops needing 3-D graphics. The blade server has eight GPUs per unit.
• A new HP BladeSystem c7000 Platinum enclosure.
• The SX1018 HP Ethernet switch, which lowers port latency and improves downlinks.
• Two new StoreVirtual storage systems based on HP's latest ProLiant server technology.
• Midrange storage gear that combines HP 3PAR StoreServ Storage and HP StoreOnce Backup systems.

Separately, HP said that it will invest $1.5 billion in channel programs for fiscal 2013 and include cloud tools. It also simplified its PartnerOne program when it comes to compensation, certifications and development. HP also included Vertica and Autonomy into the program along with cloud efforts.
