HTC One and Chromebook Pixel hands on (MobileTechRoundup show #292)

Summary: The HTC One is in hand and there is a lot to talk about it, so we've spent a good amount of time on the device. I am also playing with a Chromebook Pixel and understand why Kevin bought one.

I was lucky enough to receive an HTC One to test out, so we discussed some of my first thoughts on using the device on MobileTechRoundup show #292. I have since spent a lot more time with it since recording and am discovering the brilliance of the HTC One on an hourly basis. Topics covered include:

  • Wow

Love my job, since I've been bringing in $5600… I sit at home, music playing while I work in front of my new iMac that I got now that I'm making it online.(Click Home information)

  • People do care about hardware

Yes, HTC makes better hardware for the most part compared to Samsung. Marketing does help Samsung some but, for me, the reason I won't buy HTC is because of the lack of expandable memory or removable battery. It's not a mystery. You guys said it yourselves in the podcast, you're not like regular people. You've bought into the whole Google plan to do everything in the cloud. That's great. You can do that with a Samsung device too but also have the option to use microSD cards. That's what I want, options. HTC doesn't want to give me the options I want, so I won't buy it.

    Mystery solved!

    • Understand concerns, but iPhone has been this way since the start

The Apple iPhone has never had microSD or removable batteries either and still does very well. I understand this is likely why you don't buy an iPhone either, but there is a market for phones with ample integrated memory (32GB and 64GB in new HTC One) and a decent sized battery.
