Enemy of the good
Both your post and the one starting this thread have good advice.

The problem is, most people consider doing a defrag a risky, lengthy intervention.
When I recommended a regular maintenance program to friends they'd skip the whole thing because of the time and trouble and danger.

What I can manage is putting AdAware on the pc.
I'd prefer they run it weekly, but that doesn't happen. Usually they run it when the machine slows down again and they ask me about it.

In short, the more you ask people to do, the less likely they are to do anything at all. Stick to what's possible.
