Thanks for the tip! In regards to having to boot into Safe Mode to delete some of this junk (which is of course set to start up automatically with Windows and resist any attempts at being removed or deleted), if one is on a system without Safe Mode capability like NT 4 I've found that booting with a DOS diskette and manually deleting the spyware files/folders helps. Of course, you either have to have a FAT-based partition or use a DOS utility to access and write to NTFS partitions after booting with a floppy.

I really have to wonder about the sanity of these spyware writers (I've already commented on their coding abilities). In what sewer did they come up with their marketing strategies? They hijack your start page, hit you with popups, install memory-hogging toolbars that clutter up your screen, add Quick Launch buttons and unwanted IE favorites, report on your browsing habits, cause system crashes, lockups and lost resources, and numerous other unpleasant things. How could anyone possibly think that these annoying tactics would yield them any business at all? I'm certainly no marketing guru, but if I did any of the above in order to promote a product, I would expect - and deserve - the Frankenstein villager treatment (angry mobs with burning torches storming your house).
