Sources of spyware/adware
Just to qualify myself, i have been working in the retail and corporate portions of the computing industry repairing systems for the better part of a decade.

You listed ways of getting rid of spyware/adware by using a program by name. How about also providing the sources of some of the biggest culprets for infesting a system with spyware and adware by name. One of the easiest ways to completely destroy a system with spyware/adware is to use p2p filesharing programs like Kazaa. i have seen a system come in so badly infested that it too almost a half an hour just to complete a boot into Windows XP Home. After wiping out the system, reinstalling Windows, intalling the critical Windows updates, the user took the system home, their son installed Kazaa on the system again, and the system was back to be re-done again within 24 hours.

It put a lot of money in my pocket for backing up data and reinstalling the operating system. The user could have been saved the hassle of the whole thing by not installing programs like Kazaa, and a clear statement in the EULA of what is going to be installed, and how it is going to be used.

There is some "buyer be ware" for sure, but if the buyer isn't aware, then the sole blame for the destruction of the system and the frustration of the users sits on the developers of the softwawre.
