You're right, I should ask for the $60.

I should mention again for anyone reading this: go to nonags.com (free software and no crapware downloading with it), find a startup manager, and find out what has set itself up to start with Windows.
Take back your pc.

Anyway, I've seen the argument that Windows has a lot more problems with this stuff because malware writers are hitting the biggest market.
Some truth to that.
But the more important element, to me, is they're hitting the uhm... less interested market. People who use Linux or Mac are more likely to spare a thought for what's happening to their computers.

Complaining to people is not very effective. Some people worth knowing are heedless of computers, so I'll keep quiet -- and the friendship.

But maybe I should tell people I've gone into business as a computer home repair person, and I'm now charging. Make 'em wonder if I'll charge them if they ask for help.
They might even give more attention to advice if they did pay for it.

Until I decide to charge, I've developed a strategy: I put a few programs needed for cleanup on the desktop. When they call, everything is prepared.
Sometimes the scans take so long that I get a chance to have a meal, relax, read a book, a whole book, before I hear from them again.
Anyway, a lot more convenient for me.

You might want to think about it.
