Sun vs MS and IBM?
When the British Parliament voted for war against the Nazis, one member stood up proudly and demanded that war be declared againt the Soviet Union as well. In that way, the greatest evils in the world could be defeated at once.

I have some sympathy for that man, though I know he brought new meaning to the word foolhardy.

Sun was in that position, having decided to take on both Microsoft and IBM at once. IBM did a good job of taking business away from Sun, and became the big winner of the contest.

Sun at least had the good sense to change his mind.

Which reminds me of one of the 20th century's greatest heroes. That's the Chinese man in the white shirt who stopped a tank on the way to Tianenmin Square by standing in the road and talking with the soldiers in the tank.
When he knew the time he could be effective was over, he turned and walked away.

A hero has good judgement.
