Sun innovate, I think not...
IBM got where it is through service. They're core competency is services. As I recall GSA was the largest reseller of SUN hardware. IBM's hardware units have been largely unprofitable for years because it leads sales in consulting services.
The truth is, IBM is making more money, HP is making more money despite a MAJOR merger and Sun is hemoraging large amounts of money because it did not realize this years ago. Microsoft can help, but alternate operating systems are becoming more and more feasible; while MS services are deplorable. The money is in the service, nearly always has been.
To call this innovative is to ignore decades of IT history.
