Stay away from these thieves
This is _SO_ in character for them. Not only is their I/T department careless and sloppy, but their Customer Service department is even worse. I'm surprised they even bothered to listen to anyone's complaint.

If you should ever be unlucky enough to get stuck with hundreds of dollars in roaming charges and need to dispute it, good luck. Their CS agents are arrogant and inflexible. I actually had one tell me that yes, "I am God".

The sad part is that they're not regulated by most state Public Utilities Commissions. If you need to complain, you have to file a complaint with the Federal Communications Commission. Good luck.

STAY AWAY FROM CINGULAR. They'll change your plan on you without notice. Sloppy, arrogant, money-grubbing: sign up with _ANYONE_ else except them. As soon as my year's up, they're fired.

Oh, and by the way, United States Code (title 4, I think) prohibits discrimiatory treatment in service and billing -- no employees are allowed free service. But this is just one more behavior in character for them.
