- Security breaches, not of the technology kind

I purchased two phones in Dec. 2003. One was for my wife and one for my step-daughter. My step daughter's ex-boyfriend has friends that work for Cingular and for Verizon. While they were going out she went with him to go into a Cingular store. The reason they went was because he needed a cell phone number of someone. She witnessed him going up to the counter and speaking with the person he knew personally. He asked the person to look up a particular name. The Cingular employee wrote the information down on a piece of paperand slide it across the counter to him. He reached in his wallet, pulled out a fifty dollar bill and gave it to the cingular employee. Well, now that they have been broken up he continues to harrass her. We have changed the phone number of her phone four times since we have had them. The first time was for free, but now Cingular charges us for every other change. When I spoke to customer service about this issue, they told me that they have no way of tracking who is accessing who's accounts. The only way to tell is if someone make changes to my account, other than that there is no way to tell who's accessing it. Further after the last phone number change, the customer service rep. I spoke with said," Wow, this is scary because if people are accessing your account they have access to your social security number too." I said, "They do?" He said, "Yeah, I'm looking at it right now." He then read off the last four digits and the first three to me. Their advice to get this guy to quit harrassing her was to contact the police dept. and file a restraining order on him. But, since Cingular has no way of blocking specific types of calls, i.e. caller "Unknown" we have no evidence that he is harrassing her. My suggestion to them was that they update the way accounts are accessed and that a note when the accounts were accessed is stored in a file only accessible by higher up personnel. Their response, "Yeah, woundn't that be nice...."
I can't wait till my two years are up...I should've paid a little more and gone with Verizon. - Posted by: david_hobbs@... Posted on: 06/11/04 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
